TIPS AND TRICKS TO ASSIST WITH YOUR REMOVAL
Leading up to Removal Day
- Dismantle swings sets, trampolines, etc
- Consider alternative plans for children and pets for the day

- Arrange for disconnection and re-connection (if appropriate) of all services including electricity, gas, phone, water, etc
- Arrange with Australia Post for mail re-direction services
- Cancel all pre-arranged deliveries including milk and newspaper supplies
- Dispose of all unwanted items. Give them to a charity (if still in good condition); Pass them on to family and friends or if you want to make a little money as well, why not hold a garage sale.
The last few days before the move
- Empty any gas cylinders (ie BBQ) before transportation
- Empty (as much as possible) and defrost your freezer
- Arrange with neighbours at both addresses for adequate space for the truck to access the premises
- Try not to water any pot-plants for 24 hours prior to removal
- If possible, advance plan placement of your furniture to assist with unloading at your final destination
- Confirm removal the day before hand
Packing
- Pack all cartons tightly and secure with durable tape
- Double tape large/heavy boxes
- Ensure heavy items (ie books, records) are placed in smaller boxes
- Label all cartons with your surname and number them
- Dismantle all items prior to the removalist arriving – pack all bolts, screws, etc for easy access once you arrive at your destination
- Drain fuel and oil from lawnmowers, whipper-snippers, etc
- Separate any items that you will transport personally, including keys, documents, money, valuables, etc
- Where possible, wrap crockery and glasswear in white paper to save time when unpacking
- Try not to have lots of small loose items as these can consume time loading and unloading on the removal day – pack items into boxes whenever possible
On the Removal Day
- Dispose of any last minute un-sealed liquids
- Be on hand/contactable throughout the removal or authorise someone who is available to act on your behalf
